Using the TPS-EFF Meter and optional Compression Stand (TPS-EFF-CS) , Thermal Effusivity measurements were made on a polyester cotton water repellent fabric and memory foam. Test time (touch times) of 2 and 10 seconds were made.
SAMPLE 1: Polyester Cotton Fabric | |
---|---|
Compression Force: | 1 lb |
Test time (2 seconds): | 260 W√s/m2K |
Test time (10 seconds): | 254 W√s/m2K (layered for sufficient thickness) |
SAMPLE 2: Memory Foam | |
---|---|
Compression Force: | 1 lb |
Test time (2 seconds): | 73 W√s/m2K |
Test time (10 seconds): | 71 W√s/m2K |
SAMPLE 1 & 2: Polyester Cotton Fabric was placed over the Memory Foam | |
---|---|
Compression Force: | 1 lb |
Test time (2 seconds): |
203 W√s/m2K |
Test time (10 seconds): |
165 W√s/m2K |
When testing single type materials, test times (touch times) of 2 and 10 seconds measure (feel) very similar as the heat stays within that sample. When a more effusive layer is placed over a more insulative layer and measured, the feeling decays with test time (touch time) as heat from the sensor (your skin) is dominated by the lower effusivity layer.
