The present study look at the creation of unfilled and carbon nanofibre (CNF)-filled polypropylene (PP) foams, and their subsequent testing of thermal and mechanical properties. The testing of thermal properties was accomplished by the TPS Technique and determined that when using up to 20 wt.% CNF as filler there was no increase in thermal conductivity of any of the sample foams. Therefore it was decided that it was the foamed ...
Through the use of the transient plane source method the researchers were able to measure the thermal conductivity of a collection of cellular metals as well as the in- homogeneities of the samples. The volume of the samples was varied and the density of these individual volumes was calculated from tomography....
Through the use of computed tomography and the TPS method, the authors of this article were able to calculate local effective thermal conductivities of aluminium foams synthesized through the powder metallurgical route. Computed tomography was first used in order to measure the density of a given area of the sample and this density was then used in the TPS measurements in order to generate local effective thermal conductivity values....
A collection of AlSi7 foams (porosities 0.5 to 0.8) were analyzed using the TPS technique in order to determine thermal conductivity. Increased density was found to lead to increased thermal conductivity. The TPS technique was found to be sensitive to the in-homogeneities created from the foaming process; therefore the foaming process is an important factor in the determination of thermal conductivity of a given foam. The authors also combined several theoretical models ...
